Connecting strategic sectors with advanced AI capabilities
CTIC Technology Centre will lead the Agriculture, Climate and Blue Economy Hub of the Barcelona Supercomputing Center AI Factory (BSC AI Factory), as part of the initiative promoted by the Spanish Ministry for Digital Transformation and Public Service to extend the technological and scientific capabilities of this infrastructure to strategic sectors across the country.
The hub will connect companies—particularly small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs)—sector organisations and innovation stakeholders with the capabilities of the BSC AI Factory, as well as with CTIC’s expertise in artificial intelligence, data technologies and business transformation.
Supporting the development and adoption of AI solutions
The Agriculture, Climate and Blue Economy Hub will focus on promoting the identification, development and adoption of artificial intelligence solutions within the agri-food sector, climate and environmental management, and the blue economy.
From a sectoral perspective, the hub will address key challenges through AI-based solutions, including the optimisation of crops and agri-food value chains, adaptation to climate change, the sustainable management of marine and coastal resources, and the development of new services based on data.
As Chus García, Director of Data Economy at CTIC, explains, artificial intelligence offers transformative potential throughout the value chain of these sectors, from data management and analysis in the field to the design of new business models based on data and knowledge.
According to Fidel Díez, CTIC’s R&D Director, the technology centre will act as a bridge between the most advanced AI capabilities and the real needs of companies, ensuring that technology is translated into concrete, practical and sustainable solutions.
Part of a national network of sectoral hubs
The Agriculture, Climate and Blue Economy Hub is one of five sectoral hubs promoted by the Ministry and coordinated through the AI4ES Consortium. The consortium brings together the technology centres CTIC, TECNALIA, ITI, ITG and Eurecat with the aim of accelerating the adoption of artificial intelligence in strategic sectors including health, energy, agriculture, finance and legal services, and communication and media.
The first milestone of the programme will be an online workshop bringing together companies and stakeholders from the different strategic sectors. The event will introduce the initiative and identify the first sectoral challenges and needs related to artificial intelligence.
